I get sentimental every time we celebrate birthdays nowadays. Tonight was for mom @tedo933! A special dinner for a very special woman in our lives. ❤️ Sunset dinner at @kaanakitchenmaui with the usual favorites - at perhaps the same view, same spot where she used to work many years ago at Intercontinental Hotel before it was Andaz. Funny and scary how time flies!

Thank you to the County of Maui for hosting the flag raising - for more than a decade now. They will fly the Philippine flag for the whole month of October for #FAHM2024.

Mahalo @sharonzb17 for putting the event together despite her busy schedule. Having @specialmomentsmaui there for MFCC was also special! For Captain Aris Banaag leading the color guard and uniformed personnel and Manong Leo for his solemn prayer.

Our president @djsmaui8 delivered excellent remarks and picked up goodies from CAA. Special mention also to Madame Myrna and Auntie Iola Balubar for always being there to support. ❤️ @mahinamartin also spoke from the heart before she read mayors proclamation and she is living proof of how far the Sakadas have journeyed.

#alohamarketLA personal recap - Because I interacted with thousands of people and pets in the past three days, I felt so depleted and desperately needed to recharge. OMG so many furry babies came to the market. 🥰 and all SIZES too!

After we sold out, I went to check out the hype at Erewhon. I didn’t roll my eyes with the prices - they are higher, but I thought it was reasonable. They have good stuff. It felt like you can add extra three days to your life when you consume their organic goods. 😅 The bento I got was $22. I liked it!

Went back to the venue to help sell other vendor’s goods and was hoping to catch some of the Mana Up crew for a photo, and to thank them for their hard work, but the crowds kept all busy. Luckily, I found @charuki and that was enough. Thanks so much boo for another memorable event! 😘

With 30 minutes to closing, I left and went to play an escape room - as a single player! 🤣 I only argued about solving puzzles with myself - haha. I did two rooms at Ultimate Escape Rooms at Marina Del Ray (really excellent games) and staff, and won both. 🏆😁

After, with the sun about to set, I decided… to scooter it back to the hotel by the beach. Best decision ever. Took a Lime scooter via Uber app and I cannot stress how enjoyable this was - I felt so free and relaxed in solitary bliss! Plus, dedicated bike paths and greenways!!! Oooh I had to remind myself to stop and take clips because I really wanted to remember the moment. It was peaceful and exhilarating and the scooter wasn’t struggling to carry my weight. 🤣

Ended up with the Sunday night party crowd along Venice Beach, then had food truck quesadillas and horchata before I started packing for my return flight. Zuma also called to say hi.

That scooter ride refreshed me. Ready to go again. Let’s go!

Almost cried when I saw this piece - so it comes home with me as pasalubong for @dajapanee. Titled “Shishito,” artist @kgotoart had a more whimsical story behind it with the peppers throwing back curiosity to see one’s insides, but I just totally agree with her that no matter how much the peppers cause a ruckus inside, we still eat ‘um!

Is it a case of ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger?’ 😅 The insides of chili chili guy Deron is not twisted, but maybe pointillism kine art… or abstract? Avant garde? Or kinda like the shishito peppers there…

Anyway, this comes back to Maui with me and I can’t wait to frame it and hang at the chili oil warehouse. 🥰

Our little Gracie got married yesterday. 😭 I was OK until the musician played this song - I was instantly transported back 2008 in Kaneohe - at the border of Kahaluu! A little fighter this one is, and I am so happy she’ll have a partner in the journey moving forward. The second moment I lost it was when she danced for her hubby. Some scenes from Kamakura and Enoshima. Coastal communities are the best - they provide some breathing space from the concrete jungle. But while these shots may look dreamy, the vibes weren’t vibing because it was quite hot. We were sweaty and dehydrated. 😅 luckily, there were winds that day. #japan

We took two karate students for an immersion this

We took two karate students for an immersion this last Japan trip and we missed day 3 of our daily ootd check-in before we left the apartment. We stayed at an Airbnb outside the city center, and I loved the place so much I would totally recommend it for large groups. We had all the space + washer/dryer, full kitchen, dining and living room, sleeping for six, konbini, eki, supa all walking distance. We didn’t have any dirty laundry coming home. That one day Deron dressed up like a flight attendant was because of a scheduled visit to the US Ambassador’s residence for a reception. 😂

A vibrant and bustling Asakusa, the opening day of super exciting Sumo, visited Kotoku-in in Kamakura, and went to see the dragon in Iwaya Caves that used to terrorize Enoshima island, took the scenic Enoden line, was treated to Shibuya Sky (thanks @y4smln3), got some last minute shopping in, then offered mahalos and prayers for a safe return at Naritasan Shinshoji. I still won’t recommend going in mega atsui summer time - but perhaps the heat prevented us from spending much more? Haha 😅 #backtowork

Ask me about my back and legs. 😂 Every time we travel, I try to find the “peak” vacation moment - it’s the moment when I completely forget who I am and where I came from. It’s only a few seconds of bliss when I don’t think of work, or the next two steps ahead. It happened tonight as we joined the Shibuya street crowds, as we dealt with hot air and slithering sweat down our necks and faces. It was torture but kind of amazing - weirdly something you can only get in Japan. Back to the grind in a couple of days, but enjoying all the Mitsuya Cider and mono flavored everything while can. 🍑🍑🍑🇯🇵🍡🍙🍣 #JAPANingsohardrightnow

And it’s done! The Tokyo International Gift Show wrapped up today - thank you to Nina Tanabe of @mauifoodtech, Neal and his team, @dbedthigov and to our fellow Hawaii businesses for a great time! Shoutout to our elected officials who visited, and to US Ambassador in Japan Rahm Emanuel for hosting a dinner! Deron got to see our good friend Tokie. ❤️ We are eager to follow up on some business cards and make it happen! Meanwhile, we’ll spend a few days for holoholo and make the most of our stay! どもありがとございました！^_^

Just a quick photo dump of our trip so far. Today was our first day of for the Tokyo International Gift Show. Very productive! Quite excited to send follow up emails to new friends! Hawaii delegation had a dinner and Deron already lost his IC card. (Samsung user das why) Two more days of “work” then on to more holoholo. THIS is what I meant when I said I would be an entrepreneur. I request and approve my own PTO. 🤪
